EU Cohesion Fund project "Dredging of the Port of Liepaja"

EUR 54 624 139.30, incl. eligible costs – EUR 44 330 828.43, of which EUR 32 951 626.36 was co-financing from the European Union Cohesion Fund.
The execution of the project "Dredging of the Port of Liepaja" was commenced on 9 April 2009, when an agreement was signed with the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Latvia on the implementation of the EU Cohesion Fund project. The project was finalized on 31 October 2015.
In order to improve the accessibility of the port of Liepaja from the sea, thus improving TEN – T infrastructure functionality and retaining the competitiveness of the port of Liepāja on the international cargo transportation market, the following transport infrastructure development activities were carried out within the project "Dredging of the Port of Liepaja":
Within the component, the port fairway was deepened from 11.0 to 12.5 meters, and the depth of the Freeport area basin where bulk carrier vessels are serviced was increased from 10.5 to 12.0 meters. The dredged fairway was equipped with new navigation equipment – buoys and navigation light signals. The works were carried out by the Belgian company "Dredging International N.V." and German company "STRABAG Wasserbau GmbH", which were awarded the contract in the tender organized by the Liepaja Special Economic Zone Authority. The works to be done within the component were finalized in 2015.
Within the component, the dredging of the port Pilot Canal and Winter Harbor basin was done until the 7.0 meter mark. The works were carried out by the Belgian company "Dredging International N.V." and German company "STRABAG Wasserbau GmbH", which were awarded the contract in the tender organized by the Liepaja Special Economic Zone Authority. The works to be done within the component were finalized in 2015.
Within the component, a comprehensive modernization of the Liepaja port Harbor Master service Vessel Traffic Service Center equipment was carried out by changing radars, installing a new vessel traffic control system as well as new weather research stations and other equipment. The works were carried out by the association of persons "Talsu Spriegums & HITT", uniting the Latvian company "Talsu Spriegums" Ltd. and the Dutch association "HITT Holland Institute of Traffic Technology B.V", which were awarded the contract in the tender organized by the Liepaja Special Economic Zone Authority. The works to be done within the component were finalized in 2011.
