Liepaja will welcome a Yacht regatta from Finland

On July 8, Liepaja Yacht Port will welcome a Yacht regatta “Gdanska`2016”, which is organised by Finnish yacht club “Merikarhut”. Regatta will start in Ventspils and finish in Gdansk. It is planned, that ~30 yachts will visit Liepaja Yacht Port. Manager of Liepaja Yacht Port Karlis Kints emphasizes, that this season it will be the biggest number of yachts visiting the yacht port at the same time. Attention is focused to attract new regattas in future.
Active season in the yacht port is from April until the end of September. At the moment, yachting season has reached its highest point and yachts from Germany, Lithuania and other countries are arriving. Currently, in Liepaja Yacht Port is also a yacht sailing under USA flag.
KARLIS KINTS, Manager of Liepaja Yacht Port: “Of course, yachts from Germany and Lithuania are dominating in the Port of Liepaja, but geographical origin of yachts is much wider. Yachtsmen especially appreciate location of the Yacht Port in the city centre – everything is easy accessible on foot. Huge interest is also in Karosta, because during the entering in the Port, they see golden cupolas of St.Nikolas` Russian Orthodox Marine Cathedral, which creates an interest even in those, who has not heard about it.”
Liepaja Special Economic Zone Authority, Head of Safety, Security and Environmental Protection Department Kaspars Ponemeckis points out the work on service improvement, with aim to develop the Yacht Port and to attract even more yachts, which are sailing in the Baltic Sea. Until the end of the year, it is planned to attract funding, which would allow to develop the Yacht Port in a new quality.

Liepaja Special Economic Zone Authority took the Liepaja Yacht Port under control in May, 2015. During the first season, Port was visited by 330 yachts. Liepaja Yacht Port again received the Blue Flag, which simbols quality of environment and good services. This year only two yacht ports in Latvia received the Blue Flag -Liepaja and Pavilosta.
