05 december, 2016
“Liepaja is city of winds and today wind of changes is blowing, which will bring significant changes in Stena Line ferry traffic from the Port of Liepaja to Central Europe. From now on, in the route Liepaja – Travemunde there will be two ferry boats and the number of voyages will double,” today, December 5, was pointed out by Stena Line representative Oskars Osis, who introduced clients and partners with changes in ferry line traffic.
In order to service increasing demand and to strengthen business position in the Central Europe, Stena Line will ensure more frequent and suitable for clients ferry line traffic. Stena Line is creating a new business concept and is concentrating on development in northen part of the Baltic Sea, to insure that in the moment, when market situation will improve, Stena Line would be ready for increasing demand – was pointed out by Oskars Osis, Stena Line Comercial Director in the Baltic States.
Liepaja will be the main port, which will connect Latvia with Centraleurope. In the route Liepaja – Traveminde will run two ferry boats and will be ensured eight voyages per week. Liepaja Special Economic Zone Deputy Manager Uldis Hmielevskis points out significance of regular ferry line traffic, which will allow for entrepreneurs to plan cargo flow. Liepaja Special Economic Zone was created with aim to unite port with industrial territories in order to ensure exchange of goods, by delivering raw materials for manufacturing and by exporting production.
Stena Line ferry route Liepaja – Travemunde ensures stable place in the logistic chain between east and west. As pointed out by the “Terrabalt” Chairman of the Board Aris Ozolins, it is a significant step to increase number of ferry line voyages and we need to work to increase cargo flow, to ensure 10 voyages per week alsready in spring. Already at the moment 10% of cargo is a production manufactured in Liepaja and we can assume that its share in ro-ro cargo will grow in the future.
December 5, 2016, the Board of Liepaja Special Economic Zone decided to prolong for one more year incentives given to develop ferry line traffic.
