The Liepaja Special Economic Zone Company “CALJAN” builds a new plant in the former territory of the bankrupt steel plant “Liepājas Metalurgs”

SIA LSEZ “Caljan” is in the process of construction of its new plant and office building in the former territory of the bankrupt steel plant “Liepājas Metalurgs”. The company is about to invest ~10 million euro in the building and equipment of the former steel plant mechanical workshop. The new production premises will allow for the company to double its current production volumes and to create 50-60 new jobs. It is expected, that the new plant will be commissioned in September, this year.

SIA LSEZ “Caljan” has been operating in the Liepaja Business Center since 2006. The company is manufacturing specialized telescopic belt conveyors for loading and unloading small packages. One of their biggest customers appears to be the US “Amazon” company. Gatis Dradeika, CEO of SIA SEZ “Caljan” admits, that, despite the Covid -19 pandemic, their plans for the future are optimistic and their production volumes will remain stable.

The company with its annual turnover of over 20 million euro, provides a full production cycle – from the design stage to ready-made products, whereof 99.54% are exported to the EU countries and to the USA. The company is planning to increase the number of its employees from the current 190 to 250 in its new plant. As reported previously, on 25 September, 2018, the Liepaja Special Economic Zone Authority purchased the buildings and the land of 60.6 hectares in the former territory of the bankrupt steel plant “Liepājas Metalurgs” for the purpose of establishment of the Liepaja Industrial Park. By combining the aforementioned purchased areas with the adjacent land plots, the territory of the proposed Industrial Park will reach 120 hectares. SIA LSEZ “Caljan” is one of the first tenants to settle its business in the territories and areas, which are designated for establishing the Liepaja Industrial Park.
