A total of five construction projects – implemented and put in operation in the territory of the Liepaja Special Economic Zone in 2020 - were nominated for the award. Among the nominees – the truck access road to the Port of Liepaja turned out to be the award winner in the category “New Engineering Network Facility”. On 12 March, 2021, the “Latvian Construction of the Year 2020” Award was solemnly presented to Uldis Sesks, Chairman of the Liepaja Special Economic Zone Board by a representative of the association “Building Design and Construction Council”. The aforementioned implemented port access road project will significantly facilitate delivery of cargoes to the ferry terminal, the grain warehouses and other Liepaja port terminals.
As a result, traffic jams no longer will occur and the truck drivers will not have to wait in long lines. It will also be more convenient and safer for pedestrians – employees of the port terminals to get to their place of work. Upon designing the port access road, the daily truck traffic intensity was thoroughly assessed and taken into consideration. Construction works were implemented in 2019/2020. within the framework of the project “Development of the Liepaja Port Land Access Roads”. The length of the constructed truck access road within the aforementioned project is ~ 2.7 km, and the costs of the particular project amount to EUR 2,846,399.02. Construction works were performed by SIA “CTB” in accordance with the public procurement procedure and the concluded contract.
