On Thursday, December 9, a company with Norwegian capital "Norplast Piemare", LSEZ AS, invited the Mayor of Liepaja Gunārs Ansiņš, the Acting Manager of the Liepaja SEZ Authority Uldis Hmieļevskis and other officials to their premises to announce the start of their business operations in Liepaja. “Norplast Piemare”, LSEZ AS is the first company in Liepaja to be established by Norwegian investors.
According to the “Norplast Piemare”, LSEZ AS Board Member Gatis Ginters, the company is about to start production and export of large-scale composite products for oil extraction and floating closed fish cage systems to Norway next year. The company considers the city and the Port of Liepaja as the most promising place to develop new and innovative composite products in the long run
Gunārs Ansiņš, Chairman of the City Council, expressed his pleasure that Norwegian investments are coming to Liepaja and the company has assessed advantages and quality of the business environment in the city and the Liepaja Special Economic Zone. This gives a hope that in the coming years not only "Norplast Piemare", LSEZ AS, but also other Norwegian companies will choose Liepaja to develop their business.
Uldis Hmieļevskis, Acting Manager of the Liepaja SEZ Authority, pointed out that the project is well characterized by the synergy of the Liepaja Special Economic Zone benefits and the Port of Liepaja services, i.e. the manufactured items in Liepaja will be exported through the Port of Liepaja terminal, owned by the cargo manufacturer and owner.
