The reconstruction of the Southern Pier of Liepāja Port is the first ambitious infrastructure development project that was implemented in the history of the renovated Liepāja Port. After taking over the port from the armed forces of the Russian Federation, it was found that the South pier of the port has partially collapsed and no longer fulfills its function of protecting the port water area from the effects of wind and waves, when the suspended sediments carried by the waves freely entered the port water area, thus contributing to the water area of the Free Port and Winter Port of the port clogging of the main navigation parts. Therefore, the reconstruction of the pier was the first necessary port development measure, which ensured the successive deepening of the clogged harbor fairway and the harbor water area.
The reconstruction of the South pier of Liepāja port was carried out by the Danish company "Per Arsleff". The project was completed in 1997.
