The latest edition of Real FDI ongoing publication series highlighting the most attractive investment projects across regions and sectors has revealed its 2026 Top 10. In today’s increasingly competitive investment landscape, locations that can offer not only land, but also modern infrastructure, energy security, logistics connectivity and an ecosystem suited to advanced manufacturing are becoming increasingly attractive to investors. The Liepaja Industrial Park has been recognized as one of the most promising projects in Europe and included in the Top 10.

Stevedoring companies at the Port of Liepaja handled 341,830 tons of cargo in August 2026. Dry bulk cargo traditionally accounts for the largest share, with agricultural products, construction materials and wood chips totaling 188,160 tons. General cargo was the second-largest cargo group, accounting for 153,240 tons, of which 129,200 tons were transported on the regular Liepaja–Travemünde ferry service to Germany.

The Liepaja SEZ Authority, in cooperation with the Freeport of Riga Authority and the Freeport of Ventspils Authority, has completed the most ambitious Latvian port cooperation project to date in the field of digitalization.

Liepaja is steadily strengthening its position as a Baltic Sea cruise destination, with the 2026 season marking a new milestone for the city. A record seven cruise ships called at the Port of Liepaja this year, bringing 4,276 passengers to the city. With 11 cruise ship calls already scheduled for 2027, Liepaja is continuing to build momentum as an attractive destination on the Baltic cruise itineraries.

Liepaja Bulk Terminal - the largest dry bulk terminal at the Port of Liepaja, has signed agreements with the leading Latvian grain exporters, including Baltic Agro, LATRAPS and Linas Agro, for handling grain grown by Latvian farmers from 1 July 2026 to 1 July 2027.

Continuing a tradition spanning more than 30 years, the Liepāja Special Economic Zone Authority once again collaborated with artists this year to organise the small-scale plein-air event “Jūras elpa” (“Breath of the Sea”). The artworks created during the event will be exhibited at the Ludviķis Art Salon from 28 August to 10 October as part of an art competition and exhibition, where visitors will have the opportunity to vote for their favourite artwork.
