The purpose of the project:

to ensure the functionality of the port of Liepāja and the further development of the port by increasing the cargo throughput capacity of the port's railway infrastructure and improving the efficiency of the port's road traffic

Total cost of the project:

18.1 million EUR, of which 8.5 million EUR was co-financed by the Cohesion Fund of the European Union

The implementation of the project "Reconstruction of Liepāja Port Access Roads" was started on December 15, 2005, with the decision on the allocation of co-financing from the European Union Cohesion Fund. The project was completed in 2010.

In order to ensure the maximum return from land transport infrastructure development in the port, the following transport infrastructure development measures were implemented within the framework of the "Liepāja Port Access Road Reconstruction" project:

Component "Development of Liepāja port railway infrastructure"

Within the framework of the component, the construction of the Northern Park of the Liepāja Port Railway with three tracks (total length of tracks: 2.15 km) and the construction of the connecting railway line and West Park (total length of tracks: 2.40 km) were carried out. The works were carried out by the general company "BMGS - Trans celtnieks", which was a merger of the Latvian companies JSC "BMGS" and SIA "Transceltnieks", and which won the competition announced by the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Latvia. The implementation of the works within the component was completed in 2008.

Component "2nd phase construction of the main port car access road"

Within the framework of the component, the connection of the road leading to the port of Liepāja with the A9 highway was carried out by building a new section of the highway 2.7 km long, of which 2.1 km is a two-lane road, while 0.6 km is a four-lane road. The road section designed by SIA "E. Daniszewski's office". The construction works were carried out by SIA "Aizputes ceļinieks", which won the competition announced by the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Latvia with the most economically advantageous offer. The implementation of the works within the component was completed in 2010.

Component "Reconstruction of the Karosta Canal drawbridge"

As part of the component, the reconstruction of the drawbridge of the Karosta Canal by O. Kalpak was carried out. The bridge was restored to its original historical appearance, equipped with a new movement and control system. The works were carried out by SIA "Rīgas tilti", which won the procurement announced by the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Latvia. The implementation of the works within the component was completed in 2009.
