Cooperation of the Baltic Ports in Energy and Infrastructure Development – the Liepaja SEZ Representatives Participate in a Meeting in Denmark

Emerging technologies and opportunities in energy production are relevant to all countries in the Baltic Sea region. Gaining insight into available funding sources and learning from the infrastructure development experiences of other ports provides a valuable advantage to each and every port.

One of the key platforms for sharing such an experience is the Baltic Ports Organization (BPO) member meetings. This year’s event took place on June 16–17, hosted by the Port of Rønne in Denmark. The Port of Liepaja was represented by the Harbor Master of the Port of Liepaja, Gints Ažēns, and Head of the Infrastructure Department of the Liepaja SEZ Authority, Egils Sveilis.

According to Egils Sveilis, such meetings are especially valuable not only for discovering successful development strategies from other ports, but also for learning from projects that have not achieved their intended outcomes. As Liepaja plans to establish a service hub for offshore wind farms, it is crucial to understand proven solutions early on and avoid potential risks.

"Cooperation with other Baltic Sea ports that have already faced similar challenges and tasks is invaluable. Only through joint efforts can we also achieve outstanding results in Liepaja," emphasized Egils Sveilis.
