Entrepreneurs’ Breakfast
On 8 August, the Liepaja Special Economic Zone (SEZ) Authority hosted the monthly Entrepreneurs’ Breakfast to present the newly built fish processing plant Syfud and the SEZ Authority’s ongoing projects which are aimed at developing the infrastructure which is vital for the fishing industry.
The Syfud representatives shared their story of the company’s establishment, production operations, export markets, workforce recruitment, and the main challenges. The Syfud company which produces various types of crab sticks and salmon-based fish products, was officially opened at the end of 2024, representing the largest manufacturing investment in Liepaja in the recent years – approximately EUR 80 million euros. The plant currently employs about 230 employees. As the company’s production volumes keep increasing, the workforce will increase accordingly.
In his address to the entrepreneurs, the Liepaja SEZ CEO Uldis Hmieļevskis highlighted the SEZ Authority’s completed and ongoing fishing infrastructure development projects at the Port of Liepaja.
At the Entrepreneurs’ Breakfast event the participants had an opportunity to visit the old lighthouse near the Syfud facility, which, in cooperation with the municipality, will be shortly opened to the public. Visitors to the lighthouse will also enjoy a multimedia exhibition on the history of the Port of Liepaja. Using the latest technologies in light, sound, and video installations, the exhibition will present the history of trade, shipping, and fishing in the Port of Liepaja.
The Entrepreneurs’ Breakfast is a wonderful morning event for mutual meetings, for sharing experiences, and finding inspiration to work better, more ambitiously, more innovatively, for making use of various state support tools as well as for establishing new contacts with other entrepreneurs.
