As a multifunctional port, the Port of Liepaja has maintained a stable cargo turnover over the past ten years, averaging around 7 million tons annually.

Members of the Saeima (Parliament of the Republic of Latvia) from the United List (AS/Apvienotais Saraksts) and the National Alliance (NA/Nacionālā Apvienība) have submitted amendments to the Law on the Application of Taxes in Free Ports and Special Economic Zones and to the Law on the Liepaja Special Economic Zone to extend the regulatory framework of the Liepaja SEZ until 31 December 2050.

With the onset of construction-friendly weather conditions, the Liepaja SEZ Authority will begin construction of an access road to Berth No. 92 at the Port of Liepaja.

The Liepaja Special Economic Zone (Liepaja SEZ) Authority is continuing the procurement procedure for the reconstruction of Berth No. 46 at the Port of Liepaja and, in accordance with the acknowledgement by an independent expert, has clarified the qualification criteria for potential bidders. The deadline for submitting tenders has been extended to 7 January 2026, accordingly.

As part of this process, the potential impact of the plant’s operations and technologies on people and the environment will be analyzed.

On 1 December, at the Embassy of the Kingdom of Norway, in the presence of the Minister for Climate and Energy Kristaps Melnis, representatives of the Ministry of Economics, the Prime Minister’s advisor, and officials of the Liepaja municipality, a Memorandum of Understanding was ceremonially signed between the hydrogen producer and terminal operator CIS Liepaja Ltd. and the wind energy producer Vindr Latvia Ltd.
