Liepaja presents itself as the center of the offshore wind energy industry in the eastern part of the Baltic Sea
The Dutch expertise and significance in the energy sector is immense, considering both – their experience in building oil and gas extraction platforms in the North Sea and developing wind parks. The Baltic Sea is unoficially called the North Sea 2.0 by achieving the energy independence goals thus underscoring the seriousness of the plan. This is how the professionals recognize potential of our region.
Liepaja and Latvia, in general, play a special role in this. There are opportunities to create new jobs, to provide existing companies with green energy, and even build new factories producing foundations, masts, blades, and possibly turbines.
This will be a significant contribution to education, including our own Maritime College, which can train sailors specifically for the construction and servicing of wind parks, offering the opportunity for a maritime career right at home instead of embarking on long journeys far away.
The offshore wind industry is substantial, and Latvia must seize this opportunity for its benefit!
