Project “Renovation of the Hydrotechnical Structures of the Karosta Canal and the Northern Gate”

On October 23 of this year, the JSC "BMGS" company will start implementation of the last component of the project - construction of the protective barriers in the Karosta Canal alongside the supports of O. Kalpaks Bridge. Construction of the protective barriers is planned for both - the left and the right sides of the bridge, which would protect the bridge from possible accidents. The last of them happened in 2006, when the Georgian tanker "Anna" driven by a careless captain crashed into the abutment of the northern part of the bridge, causing such serious damage that it took four years to restore the bridge. The protective barriers are designed to be able to repel the impact of a moving ship of up to 150 m length. The bridge was built in 1906 is an engineering monument, thus, the new constructions will protect its historical appearance from damaging.
