Latvian harbor masters review port related issues
On April 10, the Latvian harbor masters and the key employees of the Maritime Administration gathered for a work meeting in Liepaja. The meeting was also attended by representatives of the Latvian Naval Forces. Maintenance of fairways, safety of navigation, modernization of the traffic control systems, handling new cargo types in cooperation with the stevedoring companies, and development projects to diversify the port operations based on sustainable industry and renewable resources were the main topics of the meeting.
The ports of Liepaja and Ventspils are planning to announce joint procurement in the near future to renew the traffic control and hydrographic systems in both ports. Likewise, the port authorities of Salacgriva, Skulte and Pavilosta are also planning their infrastructure development projects.
The Latvian harbor masters reviewed the results of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) audit, discussed the pros and cons of using virtual buoys, the conditions for registering yachts and leisure boats, as well as the need to update the port regulations.
