Liepaja port terminals start receiving grain

On July 22, LSEZ SIA Dan Store grain terminal accepted the first wheat load grown and threshed in Latvia as an affirmation that the new cereal season has begun.

Evita Dambe, Terminal, Logistics and Cooperation Manager at LSEZ SIA Dan Store added, that acceptance of grain continued throughout the day and that
the threshing season in Latvia has started somewhat early this year due the fact that cereals of all crops ripen this year on average seven to ten days earlier than other years.

The largest dry-bulk LSEZ SIA "Liepaja Bulk Terminal is also preparing for a busy grain season by arranging and improving their infrastructure and its Board Member Juris Matvejevs also admits that the grain season has begun a little faster this year and it is still too early to make any predictions about the grain quality and the yield.

He added that grain will be first stored in warehouses and the most active export period will begin in September, when the grain quality, price and contracts will be determined.

August 1 has been traditionally considered the beginning of the new grain season.
