The management of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development gets acquainted with the projects of Liepāja Sustainable Industry

On May 11 in London, Advisor to the CEO of the Liepaja Special Economic Zone on renewable energy projects, Jānis Lapiņš, together with companies involved in the Liepaja Sustainable Industry Hub initiative, presented the management of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development with the planned projects in Liepaja.

During the working meeting, the parties discussed in detail the financing models and potential cooperation with the EBRD for several individual projects — NorSAF, CIS Liepaja, and the international consortium formed by the Dutch company Van Oord and the Belgian companies Euroports and Smulders.

Advisor to the CEO Jānis Lapiņš also informed participants about the progress of Liepaja City and the Liepaja SEZ development projects, explaining the foundations and vision behind the creation of the Liepaja Sustainable Industry Hub, as well as the Liepaja Industrial Park project. The event was organized in cooperation with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, Investment and Development Agency of Latvia, and the Embassy of Latvia in the United Kingdom. The meeting was also attended by the Ambassador of Latvia to the United Kingdom Atis Lots.

Liepāja has clearly embedded sustainable thinking into its development “genetic code,” deliberately choosing education, science, innovation, and the core principles of the circular economy as its foundation. The concentration of private companies specifically in Liepāja creates unprecedented opportunities for growth and for increasing the prosperity of every resident and the city through the development of new export-oriented industries. Such industries will make a significant contribution to Latvia’s GDP and, of course, substantially strengthen Liepaja’s economic capacity and opportunities for a better quality of life.
