A Letter of Intent to be signed on the development of a new, modern power supply infrastructure
16.10.2025.The Liepaja Special Economic Zone Authority and the Municipality of Liepaja will sign a Letter of Intent with Latvia’s transmission system operator JSC “Augstsprieguma tīkls” (hereinafter referred to as – the AST) to strengthen cooperation in developing the infrastructure which is required for the German – Baltic electricity interconnection in Liepaja. For the said purpose the concept foresees allocating a proper site, which has already been selected.

14.10.2025.In September the handled agricultural cargo accounted for more than 330 thousand tons, including soybean imports from Argentina. In total, 635 thousand tons of cargo were handled at the Port of Liepaja in September, which is 28% more than in September 2024.

10.10.2025.On 8 October 2025, a regular meeting of the Liepaja Special Economic Zone (Liepaja SEZ) Board took place. During the meeting, the Board decided to grant the status of a Liepāja SEZ capital company to SIA “AI industri bygg”, approved three investment projects by Liepaja SEZ companies with a total value of EUR 1 million, reviewed and approved the conclusion of nine contracts for the provision of mooring services in the Port of Liepaja, as well as approved auction results and adopted several decisions concerning property, leases, and reservation rights.

08.10.2025.To promote the development of cargo and passenger ferry routes via the Port of Liepaja and ensure the continuity of cargo flow, the Liepaja Special Economic Zone (SEZ) Authority continues its efforts to reconstruct Berth No. 46 of the Port of Liepaja. The provision of regular ferry traffic is strategically important not only for the economy of Liepaja and Latvia, but also for the European Union’s economic and military mobility operations. Last year, the berth handled 1.8 million tons of cargo with an approximate total value of 4 billion euros.
