From March 20 - 22, the Liepaja SEZ CEO Uldis Hmieļevskis is participating in WindEurope’s annual on- and offshore wind energy event in Bilbao, Spain, for a three-day conference and exhibition, participating at the WindEurope working group for ports in particular to be involved in the strategic discussions with regard to the overall wind industry policies and positions.

In order to promote the development of the offshore wind energy industry in the Baltic Sea, one of the leading companies in the industry - Van Oord Dredging and Marine Contractors B.V. (Van Oord) plans to create a world-class offshore wind farm support base and an oversized cargo terminal in the Port of Liepaja. The aforementioned project is stipulated by the reservation agreement, as concluded between Van Oord and the Liepaja Special Economic Zone (Liepaja SEZ) Authority.

In the new wording of the Law "On the Application of Taxes in Free Ports and Special Economic Zones" as approved by the Saeima, a number of provisions have been incorporated, which in the future could promote operation of Liepaja SEZ companies, attract new investors, and reduce competition with other special economic zones in the Baltic Sea Region.

During the one-day work visit Mr. Bogdan Oldakowski met with the Liepaja SEZ CEO Uldis Hmielevskis, got an insight on the already accomplished infrastructure projects in the Port of Liepaja and was introduced on the upcoming large-scale projects as well as had a brief tour to the Port of Liepaja.

On February 14, 2024, the regular Liepaja SEZ Board meeting was held, where two investment projects of Liepaja SEZ capital companies were examined and approved.
