On 17 May at 15:00, at the Liepaja Occupation Museum at 7, the Liepaja SEZ CEO Uldis Hmieļevskis will share his narrative on the former Soviet Navy Base Karosta (“war port” in Latvian) – its past, rebirth and transformation. The event has been organized within the framework of the exhibition “The Soviet Occupation Heritage in Karosta”.

April 30, 2024, may be marked as a date when the Liepaja SEZ Authority completed implementation of the project "Rehabilitation Works of the Historically Contaminated Sites at the Karosta Canal in the Port of Liepaja”, which was financed by the Norwegian Financial Mechanism 2014-2021 programme "Climate Change Mitigation, Adaptation and Environment" with the aim of reducing the negative impact of the historically polluted sediments of the Karosta Canal on the environment, human health and the ecological state of the Baltic Sea. In order to ensure the achievement of the project goals, during the implementation of the project, the Liepaja SEZ Authority cooperated with the project partners - the Norwegian Water Research Institute and the association "Baltijas krasti". The experience of the partners was essential to achieve the project objectives.

Today, 25 April 2024, at the largest wind energy conference in the Baltics "WindWorks", leading Dutch offshore wind farm and port construction company "Van Oord" announced an agreement with the international port operator "Euroports" and the steelstructure manufacturer "Smulders" to create a consortium for joint development of an offshore wind and heavy lift terminal in the Port of Liepaja.

On April 22, 2024, the regular meeting of the Liepaja Special Economic Zone (Liepaja SEZ) Board was held, where five issues related to the conclusion and mortgaging of real estate contracts were considered and supported.

In order to create further added value to the wind farm energy, Norwegian, Swedish, and Latvian companies have established a joint project management team SIA "CIS Liepaja", to conduct the necessary research and to build a renewable energy complex "Power to X terminal in the Port of Liepaja", including a hydrogen production plant and the port terminal by 2030.

During her working visit to Liepaja on 5 April, Evika Siliņa, the Prime Minister of Latvia highly appreciated the city’s achievements, recognizing that Liepaja has set itself on a steady development path, which needs to be continued by supporting investor projects, eliminating red tape, which squashes initiative, strengthening competitive education, and last but not least - supporting the plans of the National Armed Forces (NBS) to develop their military facilities the Port of Liepaja.
