By construction of protective barriers at Oskars Kalpaks swing bridge in the Karosta Canal of the Port of Liepaja, the Liepaja SEZ Authority has completed implementation of the last component of the EU Cohesion Fund Project No. 6.1.1.0/17/I/004 " Renovation of the Karosta Canal and the Northern Gate Hydrotechnical Structures". Within the framework of the project, safe navigation has been substantially improved at the Northern Gate of the Port, the breakwaters of the Karosta Canal have been restored, Berth 1 has been dismantled and lighting has been installed in the Karosta Canal. By implementing the project, the goal of the project to improve navigation safety in the Karosta Canal has been achieved.

The Blue Flag will fly in the Liepaja Marina also in the summer sailing season of 2024. The godmother of the pilot boat "Ausma" Karina Tatarinova and the management of the Liepaja SEZ Authority being present, the Blue Flag was solemnly hoisted on May 31.

On May 27, 2024, the regular Liepaja Special Economic Zone (Liepaja SEZ) Board meeting was held, where 11 issues of the agenda were considered, four decisions were adopted, and informational reports on the operation of the Liepaja SEZ and planned development projects were also reviewed.

On May 17, the Minister of Economics Viktors Valainis visited Liepaja on a one-day working visit. Development of the energy sector, industrial manufacturing, well-paid, qualified jobs, investments in cargo transportation and export development, housing and a number of other important economic development issues were discussed with the management of the Liepaja municipality and the Liepaja Special Economic Zone Authority.

In the four months of 2024, the stevedoring companies of the Port of Liepaja handled 2.54 million tons of various cargoes – very much the same amount as handled in four months last year. The stability of the cargo to a large extent was ensured by the variety of cargo types and transshipment of the cargoes of local origin. Thus, from January to April including, 479 ships were serviced, and the number of self-propelled/non-engine ro-ro units transported by ferry amounted to 31 945.

Today, on May 14, the new production plant of the Swedish company "Care of Sweden" was solemnly opened at the VOBP Business Park in Liepaja. The company has built a strong team of employees to manufacture hospital bed mattresses. The total investment amounts to 2 million euros.
