The geographical location is a significant precondition and advantage for the development of the Port of Liepaja. The territory of the Port of Liepaja is surrounded by residential buildings, public and industrial facilities. Due to constantly increasing cargo turnover trends, the issue of mutual interaction of the port and the public city transport system functioning becomes more and more important, as transportation of cargoes to and from the port by using one and the same transport infrastructure affects the public transportation traffic.
The purpose of the project “Development of the Land Access Roads to the Port of Liepaja” is to eliminate restrictions, caused by the problem points in the European transport network functioning, by implementing the development measures of the land access roads to the Port of Liepaja.
The below mentioned activities will be implemented within the framework of the project:
Construction of the railway access road to the Port of Liepaja;
Reconstruction of the truck road to the Port of Liepaja.
As result of the project implementation, the proportion of the existing poor and very poor port access roads will decrease, whereas, the improved access road infrastructure will help to reduce the timing and the vehicle operating costs.
The Project No 6.1.1.0/17/I/002 “Development of the Land Access Roads to the Port of Liepaja” is implemented within the framework of the specific support objective 6.1.1. of the Operational Program "Growth and Employment" - "Increase the Security of Large Ports and Improve Transport Network Mobility"
