Pilot project objective – testing the anticipated methods of remediation works in order to obtain a full understanding of the most appropriate cleaning up possibilities for the whole polluted territory of polluted sediment. Within the component, part of the Liepaja Karosta harbor basin (area: ~12 ha) was cleaned of polluted sediment (amount: over 50 000 m3), by carrying out flocculating/dewatering works of the removed sediment, as well as a detailed analysis of the technological process, its influence and ecological aspects. The works were carried out by the association of persons "EKO OSTA RR", uniting the Latvian enterprises "Eko Osta" Ltd., "E Daugava" Ltd. and "Riga Rent" Ltd., which was awarded the contract in the tender organized by the Liepaja Special Economic Zone Authority. The works to be done within the component were finalized on 29 December 2015.
Total project costs: EUR 9,600,498.45, incl. eligible costs – EUR 9 440 491.63, of which EUR 8 024 417.89 was co-financing from the European Union Cohesion Fund.
